A short trip to Timmendorf, Lübeck and Travemünde in September 2010

In mid-September we went for a long weekend to Timmendorf because of a meeting. I took the opportunity for additional survey of Lübeck and Travemünde.

We stayed at the Maritim Hotel on the beach, which dated from the late 60s and needed urgent refurbishment. The very small room, the worn carpet and scuffed furniture is not compensated by the beautiful sea view. In addition, the architecture did not fit the tranquil beach. Of excellent quality, however, was in the house the gourmet restaurant.

The beach of the village is indeed impressive, but the place was not well visited due to the very cold weather, rather - in contrast to the summermonths. Clearly, in recent decades have been demolished in Timmendorf many historic buildings, so that I missed in the city a flair.

By train one can get quite quickly to Lübeck. Unfortunately, here the weather was anything but inviting: cold, windy and rainy. The city of Lübeck is easily explored on foot and offers the typical for the region brick Gothic in abundance. The 2nd World War II heavily damaged city was rebuilt true to the originals and invites you to an extensive tour.

Travemünde, since 1802 "Seaside Resort", has a lot more than Timmendorf the character of a fishing village. Unfortunately, in the early 1970s was also a "Maritim-Hotel-architectural sin" built on the waterfront, which now dominates the panorama of Travemünde.
