A short trip to Leipzig in September 2010

In late September I went to Leipzig for a few days. The primary objective was the visit of the German Central Office for Genealogy, located in the Saxon State Archives, which is located 10 km from the city center in the district Engelsdorf. I traveled to Leipzig by train and stayed in a small hotel near the station. So early in the morning I could easily take the streetcar to the archive.

Because of my extensive archive visits I had only at night time to visit the main sights of Leipzig, which presented itself to me in the downtown area very well renovated and restored. The city is beautiful and easily to reach by foot. As luck it turned out that a former colleague of mine is from Leizpzig and had offered to show me the outskirts of the city. She and her husband took a whole day time and drove off with me the most important sights of the Battle Monument, the new fair, the Konsumzentrale and still many other attractions. Unfortunately the weather was awful that day. It rained all time and was pretty cold, so that we could never get out of the car. Nevertheless, I received a fantastic "insider insight" into the city.

For the evenings I went to the Gottschedstraße where pub lies next to pub.

Völkerschlachtdenkmal (monument) (1913)
Konsumzentrale
Old Townhall and marked (1557)
Mädlerpassage
Commerzbank
"Zum Arabischen Coffe Baum" (1711)
